Ab dem WiSe 2013/14 hast du die Möglichkeit, ein neues Masterprogramm zu studieren: International Master in Sociolinguistics and Multilingualism, kurz SoMu. Es ist ein joint degree der Johannes Gutenberg-Universitäten Mainz und der Vytautas Magnus Universität Kaunas (Litauen), in Kooperation mit den Universitäten Stockholm (Schweden) und Tartu (Estland).

Jeder Studierende dieses Masters verbringt das erste Semester in Kaunas, das zweite in Mainz und das dritte wahlweise in Stockholm oder Tartu. Das vierte Semester wird schließlich dort verbracht, wo der/die Betreuer/in der Masterarbeit angestellt ist.

Founded in 1993, the Institute for Specialised Communication and Multilingualism originally focussed on research into “Language and Law”, but over the years, it has steadily expanded its remit to take in the areas of multilingualism and specialised communication. As a result, the Institute now holds an established position in the international scientific community of Applied Linguistics.

Ever since its foundation the Institute has carried out  research in the areas of terminology, translation and special languages, with the aim of creating a scientific basis for multilingualism in law and administration in South Tyrol. Later, the reform of the bilingualism and trilingualism examinations brought about increased research activity in the areas of second language acquisition and language teaching, as well as the evaluation of language proficiency. At the same time there was a steady growth of research in the specialist area of “Migration and Language”. Comparing different languages and cultures has not only led to studies on the phenomena associated with migration; the Institute's is now also focussing on the protection and promotion of regional and minority languages, including Italian Sign Language.

The Potsdam Research Institute for Multilingualism (PRIM) investigates the nature of multilingualism in children and adults, including patients with language disorders. Core areas of language processing are investigated using behavioural and physiological techniques such as eye-movement monitoring and electroencephalography.

The PRIM aims to contribute to a better understanding of how multiple languages are represented and processed in a person’s mind/brain, focusing on the temporal dynamics of multiple language use, both at the micro-level (by investigating the moment-by-moment time course of language production and comprehension) and at the macro-level (by investigating multilingual individuals at different stages of language development).

In addition to its research activities, the PRIM also provides advice to practitioners and educators concerned with multilingual individuals.

La nouvelle EA 4246 ex-3207 PREFics (Plurilinguismes, Représentations, Expressions Francophones – information, communication, sociolinguistique) est une équipe multisite implantée dans les universités de Rennes 2 (UR2, pôle principal), Lorient-Vannes (UBS) et François Rabelais de Tours (UFRT) autour de recherches portant sur les dynamiques de la diversité langagière et communicationnelle, en particulier en contextes francophones, dans les disciplines concernées. Le PREFics regroupe comme membres permanents des enseignants-chercheurs et des chercheurs de l'Université Rennes 2, de l'Université de Bretagne Sud, de l’université François Rabelais de Tours, de l’Université d’Orléans, de l'INALCO (Paris), ainsi que de l'ENS LSH d'Alger-Bouzaréah et de l'Université d'Alger 2-Bouzaréah par conventions internationales. Il accueille des doctorants à Rennes, Lorient et Tours.

UCoM is an information service for people raising or working with children growing up with more than one language. It was established by the Linguistics group at Ulster to share current research on multilingualism with families and professionals in Northern Ireland. It offers information on multilingual language development, addressing the questions and concerns of parents, educators and language professionals. UCoM is hosted by the School of Communication & affiliated to the Institute for Research in Social Sciences (IRiSS) at the University of Ulster.
